There are three ways to travel from Cairns to Rossville Retreat depending on whether you like to travel on dirt or bitumen and how quickly you want to get to us.
Cairns to Rossville Retreat via Mareeba
This route is the easiest, quickest and has bitumen roads for the entire journey.
Begin by travelling up the Kuranda Range which has spectacular views, then travel through Mareeba, the old mining town of Mount Molloy, the small farming town of Lakeland, over the Little Annan River, then take the Shipton’s Flat Road turn off and 2kms on the right-hand side turn in to Rossville Retreat.
Cairns to Rossville Retreat via the Captain Cook Highway
This route takes you along the spectacular coastal road towards Port Douglas and Mossman with its amazing gorge.
Take the left turn towards Mount Molloy which takes you up the Rex range, has less traffic and is quieter than going up the range at Kuranda.
Turn right on to the Mulligan Highway, then travel through Mount Carbine, the small farming town of Lakeland, over the Little Annan River, then take the Shipton’s Flat Road turn off and 2kms on the right-hand side turn in to Rossville Retreat.
Cairns to Rossville Retreat via the Bloomfield Track
This coastal route is the most direct but is suitable for four-wheel drives only.
Begin by taking the ferry across the Daintree River, then on to Cape Tribulation with its amazing views, at Emmagen Creek you will hit the dirt and travel over several steep ranges, next you will come to the Indigenous community of Wujal Wujal which has an amazing art centre and sacred waterfall.
Here you hit the bitumen again, drive through Rossville, past the historic Lion’s Den pub then just 2 kms further you will cross Sandy Creek, then take the next turn off left in to Rossville Retreat.
